The Streets Movement Community Centre and Gym is the hub for our operations and activities. It’s open Monday to Friday, from 9am till late. It’s a safe, shared and communal space where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds are welcome and invited to come and share experiences, time and / or participate in one of our great range of programs, events and activities, which are all provided free of charge.
Please note the Community Centre & Gym is currently closed, while we relocate to a new address and premises. Details of the new venue and opening times will be added to this site in due course. Meantime, stay up to date with our latest programs and events on Facebook.
What started as a bare bones boxing gym, has become a fully functional community centre, which hosts a regular program of activities including, but are not limited to, zumba, pilates and yoga, music and dance.
The Streets Movement community centre is also a drop in space for individuals in the community who may be experiencing difficulties or hard times. All are welcome to come down for any sort of help or support.
Our events and times change all the time, so keep an eye on our timetable to stay up to date.
Opening its doors in 2010 as a very basic centre which offered boxing and fitness classes. It has since expanded to provide a range of community classes and initiatives designed to help youth, at risk individuals, those without the financial means to be able to afford a gym or even those just looking to learn and show some community support for those with less.
A community funded endeavor, the community centre relies on people’s support to keep the doors open and electricity running. It relies on volunteers, who keep and run programs and initiatives for those in the community.
As at the end of 2015, the centre had welcomed more than 5,000 youth and a host of many others, who came, learned and took a hand up, rather than a hand out.
In 2016 The Streets Community Centre is relocating its services. The community space will soon be upgraded to a more substantial and equipped centre.
This place has served the community and the Streets Movement philosophy well over the years and has been our most successful community engagement initiative to date. It was kept alive because of the actions of staunch individuals within the community who gave their finance, time, knowledge, hearts and so much more for the ideals it represents. A simple thank you to these individuals does not begin to do these individuals justice. However, in order to grow and evolve and be able to better serve our fight, we must progress forward into a larger facility to be able to meet the needs of this community.
Full details on the next premises will become available as development occurs. Whilst there is some sadness in seeing these doors close, rest assured new doors will open to something greater than ever before. The fight will always continue.
